An early scene in the Strathroy area.
Corn has been sown in this area for thousands of years. The earliest archaeological evidence of natives planting corn is in the Strathroy area, beside the Sydenham river. The process used by native peoples for growing corn was more efficient than the European farming traditions the first pioneers used. For this reason, corn was not a reliable crop for the earliest European settlers to grow.
