SYDENHAM HOSPITALITY
The railroads weren’t just connected to industry and agriculture; a whole hospitality business sprang up to accommodate travellers on the rails. In Alvinston, where the Michigan Central Railroad passed through, there were once six hotels for a population of only 1000.
Still standing are the Grand Central Hotel and the Columbia Tavern. The Grand Central is now boarded up, but the Columbia Tavern still serves its original purpose to this day.
