8CAROLINIAN CANADA

"Carolinian Canada" is in the most southwestern part of Ontario, where the forests form the south end. This is actually a vegetation zone, meaning that certain types of plants tend to grow there. Because of the moderate climate, this area is home to plants and animals that are found nowhere else in Canada. These plants and animals make this part of Canada the most biologically diverse area in the country. Carolinian Canada makes up 1% of the country’s land, but has more plant and animal species than any other ecosystem in Canada. It is estimated that some 2,270 species of plants are found here.
